Federated Data Showcased at the Health Data Research UK Conference
The North West Secure Data Environment (North West SDE) exhibited at the Health Data Research UK conference 2025. The joint showcase with Yorkshire & Humber SDE and North East and North Cumbria SDE highlighted how the SDE network enables researchers to securely access data for population insights.
The power of federated data was a key feature at the conference. Delegates from across academia, NHS, research and industry attended the hybrid conference, visiting the SDE network stand to find out how SDEs and federated data can help clinical trials and accelerate research.
Andrew Imie, Commercial Lead at NW SDE, said:
“This event provided an excellent opportunity to hear what the future holds for research and the benefits of data insight. Many delegates were researchers or clinicians who were eager to understand how federated data could support their research.”
“On our stand we heard about various research projects including drug dependency in children, cardiovascular data, and trauma caused by car crashes. We also spoke with a leading charity about how we could support their research.”
Key themes at the event included transforming healthcare with AI; data access and information governance; routine healthcare data in clinical trials; public health and health inequalities; innovating the data infrastructure; data-driven solutions to NHS pressures; public and patient involvement and engagement throughout the research cycle; and addressing societal challenges by linking health and non-health records.
Keynote speakers were from University of Glasgow, University of Oxford; Mayo Clinic Platform; NHS England; ABPI; Genomics England; University of Cambridge, and the BHF Data Science Centre.
